How to create and assign a task

Last updated: May 7, 2026

Tasks are to-do items in Edvisor. Create them for yourself, assign them to a teammate, or — when the task is linked to a student — assign them to the student so they see it in their portal and can mark it done. This article covers the two ways to create a task and the three Assign To options.

Tasks are to-do items in Edvisor. Create them for yourself, assign them to a teammate, or — when the task is linked to a student — assign them directly to the student so they see it in their student portal and can mark it done.

Where to start

You have two entry points:

  • Top-nav Tasks panel — click the clipboard icon in the top right, then + New Task. The Student field starts empty; fill it in if you want to link the task to a student.
  • Student profile — open the student, then use the Tasks card on the right sidebar. The task is automatically linked to that student.

Both flows show the same fields.

Assign To options

  • Assign to you — the task lands in your own task list.
  • Assign to a team member — pick a counsellor from your team. They get notified and the task shows up in their list.
  • Assign to student — the student gets an email titled "[Your name] assigned a task to you" with the task name and due date. The task appears in the student portal under Your Tasks on the Home tab. They can mark it complete; you'll get an email notification and the task status updates wherever the task is shown.

Assign to student is only available when the task is linked to a student. If the Student field is empty, this option is disabled.

Where tasks show up afterwards

  • Top-nav Tasks panel — every task you can see, with search.
  • Student profile — if the task is linked to a student, it shows up in the Tasks card on that student's profile.
  • Student portal — if assigned to the student, it shows up under Your Tasks on their Home tab.
