EdWallet refund delays and special cases
Last updated: May 6, 2026
EdWallet refund edge cases: amount discrepancies from FX, chargeback handling (processor defends, student should cancel to avoid double payment), program cancellation admin fees per school policy, recipient may need extra docs. Minimize fees with same-currency refunds.
Common causes of refund delays and how to handle them.
Discrepancy in refund amount
Difference in amount refunded (often less in student's local currency) is caused by:
- Currency conversion differences between original payment date and refund date.
- Exchange rates applied by the credit card provider at each step.
Chargebacks
If a student initiates a chargeback on a payment already settled with Edvisor:
- Edvisor's processor will defend the chargeback.
- The student should be updated to cancel the chargeback to avoid receiving funds twice.
Documentation
The recipient of a refund may be required to provide extra documents (proof of account, ID) to complete the process.
Refund policy variability
Fee amounts and presence depend on agency or school policy. Always confirm with the provider.
Program cancellation
If a student cancels their program and requests a refund, the school's policy may apply an admin fee.
Payment errors and overpayments
Duplicate or erroneous payments: contact payments@edvisor.io immediately. Exchange rate bank fees may apply or be avoided depending on timing.
How to minimize fees
- Arrange refunds to same-currency accounts (USD to USD, GBP to GBP, etc.) whenever possible.
- This reduces FX spread and unforeseen bank exchange fees.
