Split payments: by item and by total
Last updated: October 16, 2026
Split payments two ways: by item (assign specific proposal items to each installment — useful for tuition-then-accommodation, insurance-upfront patterns) or by total (select # of payments; system auto-divides equally; customize per installment if needed; set dates). Remaining must = $0 before sharing. Show only first payment option available. NOT yet synced with EdWallet — students don't pay via EdWallet directly.
Edvisor supports two ways to split a proposal into installments: by item and by total. This article covers both.
Split by item
Assign specific items from the proposal to each installment, controlling exactly which costs are paid when.
How to set up
- Select Split payments by item.
- Scroll to Payment Schedule.
- Select the number of payments.
- For each payment, click the amount and select which items belong to that installment.
- Add dates for each installment.
- Save.
Verification
The remaining amount at the bottom must show $0 before sharing the proposal with the student.
When to use
- Tuition paid first, accommodation paid later.
- Insurance paid upfront, course fees paid in installments.
- Custom workflows where each installment maps to specific proposal items.
Show only first payment
Go back to the proposal's main window and select Show only first payment to display only the first installment to the student, regardless of the configured payment plan.
Important
Payment plans are not yet synchronized with EdWallet technology — students will not pay these directly through EdWallet.
Split by total
Divide the total cost of a program into equal or customized parts.
How to set up
- Select Split payments by total.
- Scroll to Payment Schedule.
- Select the number of payments to divide into.
- The system auto-divides the total amount equally.
- Edit any payment amount manually if non-equal splits are needed.
- Set the date for each installment.
Verification
The remaining amount at the bottom must show $0 before sharing the plan with the student.
When to use
- Standard installment plans (3 equal payments, 4 equal payments).
- Custom-amount plans where the agency decides each installment value.
- When the student wants flexibility on installment dates.
