Orbit Protect is a New Zealand-specific insurance provider for international students and Working Holiday Visa holders. Underwritten by NIB NZ Limited, which holds an A (Strong) Financial Strength Rating from Standard & Poor's.

Orbit Protect offers three policies for different student profiles.

Orbit Protect Lite and Working Holiday

Orbit Protect Lite (International Students)

Cost-effective version of Prime.

  • Same medical and travel coverage as Prime.
  • Property must be specified separately to be covered.
  • No kidnap and ransom coverage.

Orbit Protect Working Holiday

For young travelers on a Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand.

  • Medical coverage up to NZ$250,000.
  • Emergency repatriation included.
  • Optional property coverage.
  • Lower premiums and core benefit focus (excludes items like dental).
  • Optional baggage cover up to NZ$5,000 (NZ$1,000 per item) or higher with specified items.

Orbit Protect Prime

Orbit Protect Prime is the comprehensive policy for international students in New Zealand.

Best for

International students wanting full medical, travel, and property coverage with kidnap and ransom protection.

  • Personal belongings up to NZ$10,000 (option to specify higher-value items).

Compared to Lite

Lite excludes kidnap and ransom and requires property to be specified separately. Otherwise medical and travel are equivalent.

Claims process

Steps

  1. Create an account at the claims portal: https://claims.orbitprotect.com/login. One-time registration.
  2. Log in and complete the online claim form. Upload supporting docs: medical reports, receipts, invoices, police reports (theft/loss), flight or accommodation booking details.
  3. Wait for assessment. OrbitProtect contacts the claimant if anything is missing.

Changes and cancellations

Changes

  • Circumstances change. Email marketplace@edvisor.io. May need to switch policy types.
  • NZ residence visa granted. Notify immediately to cancel current policy. No longer eligible to continue.

Cancellations (International Student and Working Holiday)

Request the cancellation from the Cancellation section of the insurance booking in Edvisor. Cancellations through the form are available only before the selected coverage period starts.

Orbit Protect also requires its own cancellation form. Download it from the link in the cancellation form and upload it fully completed and signed by the student. See What documents you need to cancel an international policy.

Refund within 7 calendar days of policy issue

Full premium refund, provided:

  • No claim payment received.
  • Not yet departed on the journey.

If the form blocks submission

If the form says coverage has started and will not let you submit, contact marketplace@edvisor.io for help with the booking.
