How to build a Default Payment Plan template
Last updated: May 6, 2026
Build payment plan template: 5 steps. (1) Name (descriptive, e.g. 'Standard Language Program - 6 Installments'). (2) Deposit config: title + type (Fixed Amount or Percentage of Total). (3-5) Installment schedule, conditions, finalize. Live Preview Panel shows results in real-time. Templates selectable in Sales.
Create a reusable payment plan template in 5 logical steps.
Step 1: Template name
Enter a clear, descriptive name. Templates are selectable from a list during quote creation in Sales.
Best practice. "Standard Language Program - 6 Installments" is much better than "Template 1."
Step 2: Deposit configuration (first payment)
Configure the initial deposit:
- Deposit Title. Customer-facing label (e.g. "Initial Deposit", "Registration Fee", "Non-refundable Fee").
- Deposit Type.
Step 3: Installment schedule
Define how the remaining balance (after the deposit) is split into payments:
- Number of installments. How many payments after the deposit.
- Frequency. Monthly, weekly, or custom intervals between installments.
- First installment due. Days/weeks after the deposit, or relative to the program start date.
- Equal split or custom amounts. Split the remaining balance equally across installments, or set custom amounts per installment.
Step 4: Conditions and rules
Set conditions that control how the template applies:
- Minimum total. Don't apply the template if the quote total is below a threshold.
- Program duration triggers. Different installment counts based on program length (e.g. 3 installments for programs under 12 weeks, 6 installments for longer).
- Currency restrictions. Limit the template to specific currencies if needed.
- Per-institution rules. Override defaults for specific schools. See Default Payment Plans: per-institution rules.
Step 5: Finalize and save
Review the Live Preview Panel one more time, confirm the schedule matches expectations, and save. The template is now selectable when creating quotes in Sales.
Live Preview Panel
A real-time preview on the right side updates as settings change. Verify the template before saving.
Where templates are used
Templates appear as selectable options when creating quotes in Sales, allowing agents to apply complex payment logic in one click.
