Tasks in the student portal

Last updated: May 7, 2026

When you assign a task to a student, they get an email and see the task in their student portal under Your Tasks, where they can mark it complete. This article describes the student-side experience so you know what to expect when you assign tasks to students.

When you assign a task to a student (using Assign to student in the task creation flow), they get notified and can act on it from their student portal. This page describes what they see.

The email

The student receives an email with the subject "[Your name] assigned a task to you" — for example, "Eduardo Barboza assigned a task to you."

The body shows:

  • The task name.
  • The due date (if you set one).
  • A reference to you as their counsellor.

In the student portal

When the student logs in, the task appears under Your Tasks on the Home tab. Each task shows:

  • The task name.
  • The due date (if you set one).
  • A Mark as complete checkbox.

The student clicks Mark as complete when they've done it.

When the student marks complete

You get an email notification confirming the task is done. The task's status updates wherever it's shown — your top-nav Tasks panel, the Tasks card on the student's profile, and anywhere else the task appears.

When to use Assign to student

Use this for actions only the student can take — uploading a passport, signing a form, confirming a homestay arrival date, paying a deposit. For actions you or a teammate need to do, use Assign to you or Assign to a team member instead.
