Medibank Essentials OSHC: coverage

Medibank Essentials OSHC is the Australian visa-compliant student health cover product available on Edvisor.

Hospital cover

Pays towards admitted hospital services as a private patient. Out-of-pocket may apply above benefit amounts.

Medical cover

Prescription medicine

  • Member contribution: $30 per item.
  • Medibank pays: up to $70 per item.
  • Annual limit single: $300.
  • Annual limit couple/family: $300 per member, $600 per membership.
  • Only covers prescription-only medicines from a doctor for treating illness/injury.
  • Excludes contraceptive or cosmetic prescriptions, plus excluded service prescriptions.

Maximum benefits payable per member or membership per calendar year (Jan 1 – Dec 31).

Waiting periods

Waiting periods apply to new Medibank Essentials OSHC members.

No waiting period

  • Ambulance services.
  • Out-of-hospital medical (GP consultations).
  • Prescription medicines.
  • Hospital psychiatric services (including pre-existing).
  • Hospitalization for non-pre-existing conditions.

12-month waiting period

  • Pre-existing conditions (signs/symptoms in 6 months prior to joining).
  • Pregnancy and birth.

Switching from another OSHC fund

If the student joins Medibank Essentials OSHC within 2 months of leaving another Australian OSHC, and has already served the waiting period for that service, they may not need to re-serve it.
