StudyInsured: Overview

StudyInsured is built specifically for international students in Canada.

That focus shows in the details:

  • Coverage includes things like mental health support, sexual health consultations, and even annual medical and eye exams with long-term coverage.
  • Students get 24/7 multilingual assistance
  • Access to a global network of over 1.3 million healthcare providers, and direct billing with many clinics, so they don’t have to pay upfront.
  • Plus, it allows students to travel outside Canada during the coverage period, as long as at least 51% of the time is spent in Canada. Coverage includes short trips to other countries, and even up to 30 days per visit in the United States. This kind of flexibility is rare among student health insurance plans and is especially helpful during school breaks or holidays.

In short, it’s comprehensive, student-focused, and easy to manage for both students and schools.

What Products Are Available on Edvisor?

StudyInsured currently offers two main insurance products through Edvisor:

  1. Essential Plan

  2. Study Canada Plan

These products are specifically designed for international students, their families, and accompanying personnel, such as teachers or chaperones. Both plans are underwritten by Lloyd’s Underwriters and administered by StudyInsured (MSH International Canada Ltd.).

To be eligible for a StudyInsured plan, the student must:

  • Be an international student, someone who normally lives outside of Canada.

  • Apply from anywhere, even if the students are already in Canada.

  • Be enrolled in a Canadian school, or have an upcoming start date.

Emergency Assistance

In case of an emergency, students or someone acting on their behalf must contact StudyInsured Assistance within 48 hours:

  • Toll-Free (Canada/US): 1-866-883-9787

  • International (Collect): 1-416-640-7865

💡 Important:

In the event of a medical emergency requiring hospitalization, surgery, major diagnostic testing, or any treatment outside Canada, StudyInsured™ Assistance must be contacted within 48 hours.

Failure to do so may result in the claim being denied or only partially covered (typically reimbursed at 80% instead of 100%).

How to Make a Claim

Students can submit and manage their insurance claims online through the Student Portal. From the portal, they can:

  • Submit new claims

  • Track the status of existing claims

  • Review their full claims history

The portal is also accessible via the Edvisor-specific page.

If preferred, students can submit documents or ask questions via email at studentclaims@studyinsured.com.

For claim-related assistance, they may also call 1-866-883-9485.

💡 Important:
If the treatment involves surgery, major diagnostic testing, or takes place outside Canada, pre-approval is required.

Without pre-approval, the claim may only be reimbursed up to 80% instead of the full amount.
